POTPOURRI
Director's statement
Potpourri is a social conversation about caring for a loved one. Those of us fortunate enough to be spared the trauma so often associated with placing a loved one in care, still live with the fear that one day it may happen.
In this real-time film, the patient (SOPHIA), crippled by a stroke cannot move, and can only look on as her world, a single room, is interacted with by those deemed necessary to be around her. She has no say, no means to communicate and although is the focus of all activity, is a helpless bystander.
Mission
My aim was to capture both the perspective of the room, the parade of interactions and also Sophia’s perspective, what she sees and how she sees it.
The interactions come from vested parties, whether in a professional capacity or a family member or patient, they all have reason to be there, and all have a differing perspective to what they see.
Vision
Our characters bare no similarity other than ‘caring’ for Sophia. Each have their own world but are all drawn to this one room. They intersect, they interact, they come and go whilst Sophia’s life has become the stillness of her incapacity and the confinement of her bed.
